February 14-June 10, 2012 -  NEW YORK CITY - Glasstress at the MAD, the Museum of Arts and GlassstressDesign. Glasstress is a collateral exhibition of the last two editions of the Venice Biennale of Arts, 2009 and 2011. Its mission is to show the potentialities of glass, namely Murano glass, as a means of expression for contemporary artists (more info at www.glasstress.org.)

Venice Projects promotes internationally recognized contemporary artists who have been in the Venice Biennale, or artists who have achieved similar stature, providing some with the opportunity to express their creativity in a new medium, glass. Through its cultural planning activities, and site specific projects, Venice Projects develops educational opportunities for dialogue and experimentation in the use of glass in contemporary art.

Pier Jacopo Alari Bonacolsi, known as Antico (c. 1455–1528), transformed the art of bronze sculpture. His contributions are celebrated in Antico: The Golden Age of Renaissance Bronzes, the first monographic exhibition in the United States devoted to the Italian sculptor and goldsmith.

On view at the National Gallery of Art, Washington, from November 6, 2011, through April 8, 2012, the exhibition includes some 40 rare works—medals, reliefs, busts, and Antico's renowned statuettes—more than three-quarters of the sculptor's known works.

April 15-16, 2011 ~ PHILADELPHIA ~ in celebration of the 150 years of Italian unity, the Center for Italian Studies of the University of Pennsylvania will host an important international interdisciplinary conference, "From the Unity of Italians to the Unity of Italics: the Languages of Italicity around the World". The conference will bring together scholars, economists, politicians, journalists, artists to discuss the languages of "Italics": those in the world who "think Italian", even if they use other verbal and non verbal languages or belong to nationalities other than Italian.

Celebrated Sicilian Tenor Marcello Giordani and baritone Marco Vratogna will discuss their experiences in singing the roles of outlaw Dick Johnson and Sheriff Jack Rance in Puccini's La fanciulla del west (The Girl of the Golden West) at Lyric Opera of Chicago. The conversation will be moderated by Jesse Rosenberg, Associate Professor of Musicology at Northwestern University. This event is being presented on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the premiere of this opera.

February 9 - July 4, 2011 ~ NEW YORK CITY ~ Metropolitan Museum - New York City and nearby New Jersey, Long Island, and Westchester County have been home to a vibrant Italian American population since the late nineteenth century. Within this community, a remarkable tradition of lutherie (stringed-Guitar Heroesinstrument making) has flourished. Italian American craftsmen have produced an enormous variety of musical instruments, from traditional European-style violins, mandolins, and guitars to newer American instruments such as archtop guitars and mandolins and even electric guitars. Since the 1930s, makers from this tradition in the New York region have become especially well known for their extraordinary archtop guitars. This exhibition examines the work of three remarkable craftsmen from this heritage—John D'Angelico, James D'Aquisto, and John Monteleone—their place in the extended context of Italian and Italian American instrument making, and the inspiration of the sights and sounds of New York City. Bertolucci himself will be present to introduce the exhibition’s opening screening, The Conformist (1970), a film that has deeply influenced American filmmakers as different as Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg. The retrospective also includes the U.S. premiere of a rare documentary by the director, Oil (1967), which returned to public view at the 2007 Venice Film Festival.

Gianluca Pellerito was born on May 1st 1994. He started playing the drums at the age of 4. March 26- June 6, 2010. MILWAUKEE - The Milwaukee Art Museum is showing a portrait by Raphael: La Donna Velata (Woman with the Veil). The painting is on loan from the Pitti Palace in Florence, Italy. "Woman with the Veil" is considered an invaluable treasure among the paintings in the collection. The portrait, which Raphael painted in about 1516, had a profound influence on artists both of his day and since; not only is it beautifully painted, but a myth of intrigue envelops the work—it is rumored that the sitter was the artist's mistress. At one point, the portrait was considered the most famous painting in the world.

March 23-June 20, 2010. LOS ANGELES - Exhibit at the J. Paul Getty Museum: Leonardo da Vinci and Da Vinci's "Rearing Horse", 1498the Art of Sculpture: Inspiration and Invention. The first display of works by Leonardo da Vinci in Los Angeles in decades, this major international loan exhibition celebrates his achievements and involvement in the art of sculpture. Through original drawings, the exhibition explores his ambitious designs for huge equestrian sculpture projects that were never completed. Important works by artists who inspired Leonardo-and were inspired by him-are also on view. These include Donatello's marble Bearded Prophet and three larger-than-life-size bronze figures by Leonardo's collaborator Giovan Francesco Rustici, all recently restored in Florence and never before seen outside Italy. The exhibition is organized by the High Museum of Art, Atlanta, in association with the J. Paul Getty Museum.

Emperor AugustusThrough August 1, 2010. PHILADELPHIA- Ancient Rome & America at the National Constitution Center. The exhibit showcases the cultural, political, and social connections between the lost world of ancient Rome and modern America. The exhibition features more than 300 artifacts from Italy and the United States, bringing together a never-before-seen collection from Italy’s leading archaeological institutions in Florence, Naples, and Rome, paired with objects from over 40 lending institutions in the United States.

Covering over 8,000 square feet, the exhibition is organized into three main galleries: Building a Republic, A Classical Revival, and Expansion and Empire. At the close of the exhibition, visitors are left with a question about the future of our nation, What does ancient Rome foretell about the fate of America? Exhibition highlights include: a Roman bronze eagle and American gilt eagle depicting the classic symbol shared by ancient Rome and America; Roman busts of Scipio Africanus, Julius Caesar, and Cicero; busts of the Founding Fathers, such as George Washington, portrayed in togas; remnants from Pompeii, including silverware, a preserved piece of a wall fresco, and the cast of a man who did not escape the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius, and more!

March 4-7, 2010. CHICAGO - The Italian Cultural Institute is bringing Marino Marini's bronze Marino Marinimasterpieces, sketches, etchings, silkscreen prints and lithographs to Chicago in this unprecedented exhibition of the late master's work. Marini (1901 - 1980) is one of Italy's greatest 20th century artists. His work was exhibited in Europe's major cities throughout his lifetime, he took part in "The sculpture of the Twentieth Century" exhibition in New York City, and was an honorary citizen of the city of Milan. A museum dedicated entirely to his work opened in Florence in 1988. The ICI exhibit reexamines Marini's role in the American art scene between the 1950s and 1970s, and introduces a new generation of art lovers to Marini's most iconic creations: "Pomone," a female figure in bronze, and the magnificently modeled "Knight." The themes of female archaic divinities called pomone, and of horsemen, were constants for Marini, whose artistic vision was informed by his early study of Tuscany's famous Etruscan artwork.

The documentary by Gianfranco Norelli, Pane Amaro (Bitter Bread), will be shown. Journalist Ennio Caretto, former correspondent for Corriere della Sera will moderate. This roundtable is co-sponsored by The Lido Civic Club and the Abruzzo and Molise Heritage Society.

Italian actress Simona Venturi has been chosen as the Godmother of this year's events.

The gala italia is organized annually by the Italian Wine & Food Institute under the patronage of he Italian Embassy in Washington.

This is a ground-breaking exhibition devoted to contemporary Italian art and creativity, co-presented by the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA), Chicago, and the Palazzo Grassi, Venice, on view at the MCA from November 14, 2009-February 14, 2010.

Guest curated by Francesco Bonami, curator of the upcoming Whitney Biennial, Italics presents more than 80 Italian artists active during the past four decades whose work offers a deep sense of originality and vitality, whether embracing their classical roots, breaking away from traditions, or reflecting the social transformation of Italy.

NEW YORK CITY - The drawings of Bronzino, the Italian Mannerist who was appointed court artist to Duke Cosimo de' Medici. Born Agnolo di Cosimo di Mariano, Il Bronzino studied under Raffaellino del Garbo and Jacopo da Pontormo.

This exhibition is the first ever dedicated to Bronzino (1503–1572), and will present nearly all the known drawings by, or attributed to, this leading Italian Mannerist artist, who was active primarily in Florence. A painter, draftsman, academician, and enormously witty poet, Bronzino became famous as the court artist to the Duke Cosimo I de’ Medici and his beautiful wife, the Duchess Eleonora di Toledo. This monographic exhibition will contain approximately 60 drawings from European and North-American collections, many of which have never before been on public view. Accompanied by a catalogue, authored by a team of international scholars, to be published by the Metropolitan Museum.

January 10, 2010. STATEN ISLAND - Aldo Mancusi will present "The Life & Times of Enrico Caruso" at the Garibaldi Meucci Museum . In 1990 Mancusi founded the Enrico Caruso Museum in Brooklyn and was awarded the title of Cavaliere Ufficiale for his splendid work. He will be showing some of his extensive collection of rare Caruso video and memorabilia, and will be bringing his 1910 Victor wind-up phonograph.
