HAPPY NEW YEAR AND BEST WISHES FOR 2011!
Music by Chris Botti & Lucia Micarelli

We'd like to share with you a very special performance by two talented Italian Americans, the acclaimed trumpeter Chris Botti and the "rock star" violinist Lucia Micarelli. In this video, from Botti's 2009 PBS special Chis Botti in Boston, they perform the moving "Emmanuel." Botti was born and raised in the Portland, Oregon, area. He spent two years of his childhood in Italy. His earliest musical influence was his mother, a classically trained pianist and part-time piano teacher. He started playing the trumpet when he was 9 years old, and committed to the instrument at 12, when he heard Miles Davis play "My Funny Valentine." Botti is the best-selling American jazz instrumental artist.

Micarelli was born in Queens of an Italian father and Korean mother. She began playing the violin at age three and played her first concert with an orchestra when she was 6. She was classically trained at Juilliard and the Manhattan School of Music.
