10|06|20 - Festa Italiana was celebrated in Washington, D.C. today. Before the Festa got underway, members of the local Italian American community formed a procession to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial to place a wreath in honor of Lt. Giuseppe (Joseph) Petrosino, a N.Y.C. police officer and organized-crime fighter, who was assassinated in Palermo Sicily in 1909. This year is the 150th anniversary of the birth of Petrosino. Judge Giannicola Sinisi, the Italian Embassy Justice Attache, placed the wreath on the Petrosino memorial and recalled the contribution that Italian Americans have made to combat organized crime.
