Five People Dead In Costa Crusise Concordia Crash Off Coast of Tuscany (toll rises to 12 as of Jan 21) January 15, 2012

January 15, 2012 ~ - The United States Embassy in Rome sends its condolences to the families of those passengers of the Costa Concordia cruise ship who died in a shipwreck off the coast of Tuscany early this morning. The welfare of American citizens in Italy is the highest priority of the U.S. Embassy in Rome, and the U.S. Embassy in Rome and the U.S. Consulate in Florence are working with local officials and the families of the passengers to provide assistance to Americans affected by the accident. The U.S. Embassy has established an emergency response team. Concerned Americans may call +39 06 4674 1 for emergency information.Based on information provided by local authorities, the US Embassy has revised the number of Americans estimated on board to 120. As of 5:00 pm local time, there are no reports of serious injuries to American citizens, though we cannot yet account for all Americans believed to have been present on the ship at the time of the accident.
